Welcome to Our Spectrum of Strengths

Posted on August 7, 2025August 7, 2025

Hi there, and welcome! I’m so glad you’re here.

Our Spectrum of Strengths is more than just a blog—it’s a space to share the heart, hustle, and intentional planning that go into creating a neurodivergent-affirming classroom for students with extensive support needs.

In this classroom, we assume competence, meet students where they are, and support their growth in the ways that work best for them. We focus on accessibility, communication, connection, and meaningful learning experiences. Whether a student is using AAC to communicate, navigating sensory needs, learning new academic skills, or mastering classroom routines—we celebrate their progress, honor their individuality, and adapt our approach to make learning work.

Who This Blog Is For

This space is meant to support a wide audience:

👩‍🏫 Educators – Whether you’re a brand new teacher or a seasoned one, you’ll find ideas, insights, tools, and real-life reflections on the daily work of teaching in a neurodiverse classroom. I share what’s worked, what I’m tweaking, and what I’m still learning. (Spoiler: there’s always something.)

👨‍👩‍👧 Families – I know how important it is to feel connected to your child’s learning environment. This blog gives you a look at how we structure our days, the kinds of supports we use, and how we’re helping your child grow academically, socially, emotionally, and beyond. It’s my way of keeping you in the loop and helping you see the “why” behind what we do.

What You’ll Find Here

You’ll see posts about:

  • Prepping for the school year (with checklists and sanity-saving tips)
  • Visual supports and communication tools
  • Behavior supports and classroom management
  • Adapted curriculum and instructional strategies
  • First-week and seasonal activity ideas
  • Reflections on neurodiversity, inclusion, and growth
  • And a few honest moments from behind the scenes (because let’s be real—this work is beautiful and messy)

Why the Name?

The title Our Spectrum of Strengths is intentional. Our classroom isn’t about deficits—it’s about discovering and nurturing each student’s unique strengths, communication styles, interests, and ways of learning. We recognize that there are many ways to show understanding, to build relationships, and to shine. Our job is to create the conditions where all of that can happen.

Thanks for stopping by. Whether you’re reading as a fellow educator, a parent or caregiver, or a curious visitor—you’re part of this community. I’m glad you’re here, and I hope you leave with something useful, affirming, or inspiring.

Let’s make this a year of growth, inclusion, and connection. 🌈
